Mondays with Marty 3/10/19

Friends,

I realized something getting ready for Sunday's message -- there were no volunteer opportunities in the Old Testament Church!  Everything that got done in either the Tabernacle or later in the Temple was done by the the tribe of Levi, and they were required to do so by the Law of Moses.  If you were from the tribe of Levi, there was no choice, you were required to serve.  And if you weren't from the tribe of Levi, it didn't matter how much you might want to serve, you weren't allowed.  There were no volunteer opportunities in the Old Testament Church.

Something to Ponder: Everything in the Old Testament church was done by professionals, whereas the New Testament church would be crippled without volunteers.  Peace could never afford to pay the staff it would take to do what our hundreds of volunteers do for free.

Something to Pray About:  Ask Jesus to show you where he would have you volunteer in his church, but also in your community and in your world.  Sometimes we serve the church (Ushers, Sunday School Teachers, etc.).  Sometimes we serve through the church (PADS,  Care and Share and other social ministries).  Sometimes we serve beyond the church (Habitat for Humanity, Feed My Starving Children, etc.).  Ask Jesus to show you where he is calling you to serve.

Something to Put into Action: When Jesus shows you where and how to serve, obey.

In Christ,

Pastor Marty
