Friends,

What goes around comes around. Or as the Bible says, you reap what you sow.

Consider Jacob. He cheated his brother Esau twice, once for his birthright and once for his father's blessing. What came of that? Jacob's father-in-law, Laban, cheated him over and over again! First Laban tricked Jacob into marrying the wrong sister, Leah instead of Rachel. And then when Jacob cared for Laban's flocks, Laban cheated him ten times on his wages. Jacob lived with Laban for twenty years, and was tricked or cheated eleven times. What goes around comes around. You reap what you sow.

And that's a problem for us sinners, because when you sow sin you reap death and hell. If what goes around comes around, is there a way to duck? No; somebody has to pay the price. The good news is Jesus did that for us. On the cross, Jesus reaped what we sowed. He died in our place. He suffered for our sins. What we sent around came back around, but Jesus shoved us out of the way and took it himself. Then he rose from the dead.

And now, we reap what Jesus sowed. He lived a perfect life free from sin, and we reap the benefits. He died for our sins, and we receive the forgiveness. He rose from the dead and sent resurrection going around. Someday resurrection will come back around for you and me.

Or as the Bible says, we reap what Jesus sowed.

In Christ,
