Friends,
Effective immediately, I resign...myself to learning the lessons taught in Sunday's Gospel lesson from Luke 18, the story that began with a man coming to Jesus and asking, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" Like any good teacher, Jesus tried to teach the man by asking him questions. The goal was for the man to realize that there was nothing he could do to inherit eternal life. If only he could grasp that, then Jesus could give him the good news that he (Jesus) would do it all for him.
Something to Consider: When did you realize that you could never earn your way into heaven? Was it hard to admit? How did it change the way you saw yourself? Do you ever relapse into behaving like it's all up to you?
Something to Pray About: Ask Jesus to make his love for you -- his grace -- more real to you day by day. Ask him to make you more thankful for his love each day. Ask him to fill you with faith, hope and love.
Something to Put into Action: Jesus forgave you everything and gave you eternal life as a gift. Is there anyone in your life who needs some grace, needs you to forgive them? Pass on to them what Jesus so freely gave you.
