Mondays with Marty 3/3/19

What do you think heaven will be like?  Clouds and harps?  Boring.  A never ending church service?  Also boring.  A live performance of my sermons?  Worse than boring.

In the book of Ephesians, Paul tells us that God's plan for eternity is to show us "the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus." (Eph. 2:7)  That means the goal God has set for himself is to spend forever knocking your socks off with one new, awe inspiring, over-the-top act of kindness after another.  Forget the clouds and harps.

Something to Ponder: The Bible tells us that we begin our lives spiritually dead, an enemy of God.  And his response to that is to wrap us up in his redeeming love.  How would your life be different if God's basic reaction to us was disgust and rejection?  How much time do you spend thinking about what it means that God is rich is mercy?

Something to Pray About: Thank God for his love.  Thank him for Jesus.  Thank Jesus for becoming what we are so that we could become God's children.  He became a corpse so that we could come alive.  He came alive so that we could ascend with him into heaven.  Thank him for bringing our souls to life, and anchoring that life in his.

Something to Put into Action:  Since God will spending eternity showing you one kindness after another, why not spend your life showing kindness to others?  As the bumper sticker says: HUMANKIND -- BE BOTH.

In Christ,

Pastor Marty
